I would tell them to do it — and I would tell them to lock in for as many years as they can.
Doug Rogge
VP of Administration, Rogge Insurance

BACKGROUND

George C. Rogge founded his agency in 1923 in Gary, Indiana. Now in Merrillville a century later, his great-grandson Douglas Rogge is still at it with a small, dedicated team serving one of the more specialized books in the independent agency world.

Rogge Insurance built its business around a unique product model in non-standard auto. The agency functions more like an MGA than a traditional shop, handling all billing and commission tracking in-house, with sometimes 300 new clients coming through the door in a single month. When you operate at that volume, the agency management system isn’t a back-office tool. It’s how the whole operation stays upright.

For nearly 40 years, that system was TAM, a legacy agency management system from Applied Systems. It was familiar, it was embedded, and for a long time, it was enough.

  • Saves producers' time
  • Automates cold outreach
  • Strong customer support
  • Hands-on, responsive Zywave support throughout the pilot
  • Collaborative implementation process with active iteration and improvement
  • Strong long-term potential with a clear roadmap for continued growth
  • Saves producers 10+ hours per week
  • Reduces manual prospecting effort
  • Potential to generate new business with minimal producer time investment

OPPORTUNITY

But TAM’s limitations were impossible to ignore. As part of the Applied Epic ecosystem, TAM was no longer a strategic priority for its parent company — and it showed. Investment in the product had stalled. The system ran on aging infrastructure, dropping connections multiple times a day and growing slow. Searchability was nearly impossible without a specific customer code that most clients didn’t know and most agents had to hunt for. Even basic accounting was rigid: Doug couldn’t move money between bank accounts without routing through an intermediate transfer account he navigated every single day.

When Applied Systems announced TAM’s sunset and significantly raised the price to push remaining users off the platform, it removed the last reason to stay. Doug had been building his must-have list for years. Now was the time to act. He needed:

  • Instant, flexible client search by name, policy number, or any string
  • True built-in accounting — no companion software, no workarounds
  • A system that could flex to match Rogge’s high-volume, specialized billing model
  • A purpose-built insurance platform, not a general-purpose tool bolted onto an AMS

SOLUTION

Doug’s evaluation came down to two non-negotiables: searchability and built-in accounting. He looked at general-purpose accounting software paired with a standalone AMS, but splitting commission tracking and agency operations across two platforms — one of which wasn’t purpose-built for insurance — wasn’t a tradeoff he was willing to make. Partner Platform from Zywave solved both in a single system.

Partner Platform didn’t require Rogge Insurance to change how it operates. It gave Doug the tools — including direct bill upload, custom coverage lines, built-in accounting, and client texting — to make the platform work the way his agency already works. That flexibility is what makes Partner Platform the right fit for agencies of any kind, not just the typical commercial P&C shop.

IMPLEMENTATION

The transition wasn’t without friction. Rogge’s high-volume billing workflow turned out to run slower in Partner Platform than it had in TAM — a real concern for a team processing hundreds of billing entries a month. But Doug found the answer built right into the platform: Partner Platform’s direct bill upload feature let him export transaction data as a CSV and push it directly into the system, eliminating manual entry entirely. What started as the implementation’s biggest concern became a workflow upgrade.

RESULTS

The results have been clear across every dimension that matters to Rogge Insurance.

63% cost reduction — The agency is now paying roughly 63% less than it was under TAM, with more capability. Multi-year pricing locked in those savings going forward.

Searchability transformed daily operations. With the ability to find any client instantly by name, policy number, or any search string, inbound calls are faster and the team looks sharper on every interaction. Staff who used to spend time on manual data entry now have bandwidth for client-facing work.

The built-in accounting gave Doug exactly what he needed: one system, one source of truth, no dual-entry, and no workarounds just to move money between accounts. The built-in texting feature, which assigns each staff member a dedicated number tied to client records, is already in active use — with a broader rollout planned.

Rogge Insurance is a 100-year-old agency running a highly specialized book. Partner Platform found a way to serve it. For any agency wondering whether the platform can flex to fit their unique model, Rogge’s experience is the answer.
