Scaling Multi-State Growth with TurboRater
in Action
Zywave was really the only product facilitating what we needed, and when we saw they had every carrier, whether local or national, it made it an easy decision to move forward.
BACKGROUND
Magnum Insurance is a trusted independent insurance agency offering auto, home, life, and commercial insurance products to customers across numerous states. The agency built its original book of business and agency website around a small number of direct carrier relationships. Vice president and Director of IT, Chris Roman, had experience with Zywave’s early technology before reconnecting with the platform years later through TurboRater. When Magnum Insurance set out to expand beyond its home state, Illinois, the agency needed a rating and carrier-connectivity solution that could keep pace with its growth plans.

OPPORTUNITY
Magnum’s original website connected directly to only two carriers willing to share their own APIs, and building each additional one-to-one carrier integration was slow. The agency’s first from-scratch integration took roughly a year of API discovery, development, and weekly progress meetings. This was a timeline that would not scale as Magnum Insurance looked to enter new states. Magnum also runs its operations on Salesforce, so any new rating solution needed to integrate cleanly with its existing CRM, rather than replace it. The solution needed to support local, non-standard carriers that make up a significant part of Magnum’s book, not just the large national names.
SOLUTION
The Agency selected TurboRater for its breadth of carrier access, spanning across national and local, non-standard carriers, and for its strong API foundation. Roman’s team built its first Salesforce integration on top of TurboRater, creating a comparative rating experience for its users without the need to abandon the Salesforce environment it had already invested in.
IMPLEMENTATION
RESULTS
Now we have this relationship and access to carriers we have contracts with, so we don’t have to depend on rewriting the book and working with carrier APIs directly” … “At this point, we just need to modify our front end to accommodate whichever state we’re entering, because each state has its own requirements and underwriting questions. The back end is already there, and the time savings is significant, it goes from about a year down to two months.
